When the comedy skills of Next Day Air's fine cast are set loose, the laughs are plentiful. "You gonna fire me?!" asks delivery company slacker Leo (Scrubs's Donald Faison), incredulous, of his furious boss. "Mom!" "Don't 'Mommy' me!" snaps the boss (a crackling-hot Debbie Allen). Such is the situation for poor Leo, when the only job he can get is working for his mom--and even she is this close to booting him. But even Mom doesn't have a clue of how badly Leo can mess up. He misdelivers a box filled with cocaine. The film delivers tense action and laughs in alternate bursts; the cast, which also includes Mos Def, Mike Epps, and Wood Harris, has great chemistry and the tension builds as the drug-world stakes begin to build. The tone of the film inevitably changes toward the end, as the reality of drugs and guns become too much for cheap laughs. But the cast delivers fine performances, and Faison, as always, is a comedic gem. --A.T. Hurley
